Opening Ceremony of the Shanghai World Expo
The 2010 World Expo in Shanghai, bringing together 189 participating countries for six months, was inaugurated on April 30th. The majestic opening ceremony was held alongside 3.4km of the Huangpu River which runs through the Expo site. A 30-minute multimedia spectacular on the riverbanks mixing lighting, pyrotechnics, lasers and water effects illuminated the landscape, to a rousing backdrop of classical music. Producers of the event called upon ETC’s expertise of ETC for the perfect management of images on a gigantic LED screen measuring 280m long by 33m high, one of the highlights of the show.

For the programming and playback of images on the LED screen, an Onlyview system with fully redundant back-up was installed in the principal control room situated next to the screen.
- A second Onlyview system located in a second control room allowed for the verification of media and the formatting of the images prior to their programming.
